More Collectors Needed – Please Help If You Can

Thursday, April 26th, 2018

Greetings Friends……We have a desperate need for more people to collect for The Salvation Army’s Annual Appeal. The money raised is critical to The Army’s Community Ministries programmes which features so strongly in our own corps operations. We really need the help of everyone who regards Hutt City Corps as their spiritual home. For those who have already put their names down for collecting I wish to say a very big thank you.

Please study the attached times and email me back on: [email protected].

Transitional Housing (T House)

Monday, June 15th, 2015

Transitional Housing (T-House) At the moment our T-House is chocka block full with children and their parents.

This is an excerpt from the ‘War Cry’ where Toga Tofilau speaks about his passion for people to know and be known by Jesus. “Transitional housing started out of concern for the amount of families who had to have children uplifted by Child, Youth and Family (CYFS). We had a conversation about wanting to do something to help these families, and CYFS said, ‘If you can find somewhere to house them, we can help.’ So we approached Housing New Zealand and said, ‘This is what we’re looking at: keeping families together, with somewhere to house them and a structured programme.’

They agreed to provide the house and we provide the programme, working on parenting, budgeting and self-development. With the parenting programme, part of it is group parenting. Every Monday we sit down together, all eight families, and go through the Toolbox programme, and we have speakers that come in from Plunket and places.

We also have a Friday playgroup, modelling stuff. Then, its just talking about experiences that we grew up with and how can we change the reasons we got there…. It’s non-stop work, there’s always something happening, but I love working with people. For me, it’s that we’re all created in the image of God. We’re working with people that have lost the sense that there are things they can offer and that God’s got something for them. They don’t believe that. So it’s about sharing the message and journeying with people.’

Toga & Liz Tofilau with Aroha Taputoro run the Transitional Housing Programme which is part of Hutt City Corps’ Community Ministries. Aroha with her mokopuna (grandchildren) live in residence at the housing complex.

Please continue to pray for this amazing team as they pour out their lives for Jesus in order that people would know Him and His all-consuming love.

If you would like to talk with Toga, Liz or Aroha about T-House, they would be happy to hear from you.

Towards Belief – what are the top belief blockers of our time and how should the church respond to them?

Tuesday, October 14th, 2014

There’s a great event coming up for young adults on Tuesday 4th November at 7.30pm at Lifepoint Church, 61 Hopper St, Mt Cook.

It is being put on by Thinking Matters and in association with Olive Tree Media, Karl Faase will be leading through a discussion called ‘Towards Belief – what are the top belief blockers of our time and how should the church respond to them?’

Scroll down for more…

Towards Belief Flyer

Its aim is to encourage people to think more deeply and to better understand our religious and spiritual beliefs, enabling us to present our faith as both true and rational. Some of the ‘belief-blockers’ that will be discussed include the problem of evil and suffering, exclusive faith, church abuse, the supernatural, religious violence, and science and God. This is a great opportunity for young adults to engage in some deeper-thinking about their faith, and to hear some discussion around some of the topics that stand in the way of some people getting their own faith.

I hope you will join me in encouraging all the young adults you know to attend one or both of these events. Let’s be vulnerable, learn together, go deeper, and talk about the real stuff.

All the details are available on their website which you can check out by clicking here.
